Women Suffering from Migraines Are More Predisposed To Have Depression

Woman suffering from chronic headache, specifically migraine, are more likely to suffer from depression disorder, feel exhausted, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical study involved 1080 patients who buy seroquel online at headache clinics in four different countries. Of the man tested, 593 reported incidental headache (less than 15 headaches monthly) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the women were tested with migraines.

The clinical trial found woman with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among patients diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical investigation found the likelihood of major Atypical Depression increased 32-fold if the women also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms would stir up or be a manifestation of major Manic Depression in women with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Atypical Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This connection between migraine and major Major Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression can be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Atypical Depression, psychiatric disease such as Manic Depression complicates headache management and can rouse poorer result for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The medical study was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American patient suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to meliorating man care through education and clinical investigation. A neurologist is a health care provider with a wide knowladge of monitoring, curing and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
